CLASSES
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN TEACHING A CLASS AT THE VICTORIA FIBREFEST, PLEASE EMAIL YOUR PROPOSAL TO ME!
1. Check out Cat Bordhi's June 18th and 19th classes here! As of today (June 4th) there is still room in both of Cat's classes, but you need to act fast!
2. June 9 - 11
CLASS: FROM FLEECE TO FIBRE
~ THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO INSUFFICIENT ENROLMENT ~
This is a 3-day class, but students are welcome to sign up for any single day of it. We will start with RAW FLEECE (straight off the sheep, poop still attached) and end up with dyed fibre ready to spin.
This will be a fun, “hands on” course (and yes, your hands will get dirty)!
DAY ONE: We will examine the fresh fleece for soundness and evaluate its possible uses so that students will learn what to look for in a raw fleece. We will then learn several different methods of washing the fleece, and we will wash the fleece and hang it up to dry.
DAY TWO: On day two we will continue to prepare the raw (clean!) fleece for spinning by carding, combing, flicking and teasing (and we will learn the difference between those techniques and why each is used). Our fleece will end up in the form of batts or roving (and we will learn the differences/preferences for those forms).
DAY THREE: We will dye our processed fleece with commercial chemical dyes and/or Kool-Aid, and we will learn the basics of ‘solar’ dying.
Fleece and all other processing equipment will be provided, and each participant will end up with at least 8 ounces of clean dyed fibre to take home.
Please bring an old large pillow slip or large cloth bag with you for your wool. Wear old clothes and waterproof shoes; rubber gloves and an apron are optional. If you have hand cards, combs, a flicker or a drop spindle please feel free to bring them along!
INSTRUCTOR: Wendy Mitchell, Juan de Fuca Crafters Guild, Victoria Hand Spinners and Weavers Guild
TIME: 10 a.m to 4 p.m daily (with an hour off for lunch).
FEE: Each day: $50
ALL THREE DAYS: $125
LOCATION: TBA after confirmed registration.
